Review of the Novel

She was not an ordinary girl, she was the Sun Summoner. Alina Starkov who was a solider was separated from her best friend and her love interest Mal, when her Magical power was reveled in the Shadow Folds. They take her to the Grisha camp and they train her. Where she meet Darkling the leader of Grisha army and the most powerful Grisha alive. he helps her to find her true abilities so that they can destroy the Shadow fold which is a cursed land occupied by monstrous fling creatures called Volcras . things progress from there with lot of twists and turns. novel ends with the note of hope.

Alina's character makes a few wrong choices but once she realizes she is ready to face the consequences. Being raised in a orphanage she really feel belong to anywhere and this issue is reflected in her personality as well. Mal was the finest Tracker of the regiment and was desired by all the girls. His Character flow is that he fails to express his love. Darkling character is a complex one which remains mysteries till the later half of the novel.

The setting of the novel is wonderfully crafted, and the author placed the element of magic into the world with outmost care. Children with magical powers are tested from an early age and sent to train and became Grisha. They serve and protect the country with their magical powers. Grisha where the soldiers of the second army and masters of small science. They have the concept of amplifier which increases their abilities in multiple times and it has great significance in the plot if the novel.

although I haven't read any of other books by Leigh Bardugo, I liked the style of writing. it is enjoyable if not powerful. it is more a simplistic writing style. We could read the book in one sitting because of its good pacing. overall the novel was entertaining and I cant wait to read the next novels in the Grisha series which is Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising. Netflix adaptation of this novel is also well accepted among the viewers.
